US based Client Z was one of the leading provider of used & Refurbished Cisco Systems, Extreme Networks, Juniper & Foundry equipment. Client Z can edge products at exceptional prices and he was looking for a software firm to redesign the existing website & make their customers to visit the site repeatedly to sell the inventory & purchase the refurbished Networking equipments.


Project Description

The Client Z is one of the leading provider of used and Refurbished Cisco Systems, Extreme Networks, Juniper and Foundry equipment in USA. The Client Z has the experience and industry connections to deliver cutting edge products at exceptional prices. It offered 50-70% discount on list price for refurbished and used equipment and offers Cisco and Extreme networking equipment in new open box condition up to 30% discount on list price. This Client Z was looking for a software firm to redesign the existing website and make their customers to visit the site repeatedly to sell the inventory and purchase the refurbished Networking equipments.

The Client Z had an existing website. The existing website was purely a static website with out contemporary look. It needed a dynamic website where the informational content would been managed from the back end admin panel & have a best look for the site than the already existing website

Capability Analysis :

Whirled Routers was used to redesign a static website into Dynamic website. It was able to manage content from the backend - admin panel with following features.

  1. Users can browse the informational pages on the site related to profile, services and terms of use & Fill a contact form to the submit enquiry to the site admin.
  2. Browse and view the categorized product catalogue of different brands with the detailed specification and prices.
  3. Site visitor can register as a customer and get the login page to access the account
  4. Browse the catalogue of items using category navigation. Categories will be like routers, switches, cable memory etc. Site visitor can browse the catalogue of items using category navigation.   5. Site visitors can browse and view different topics in the forums. The visitor is restricted to post or reply to the messages in the forums.
  6. Keyword search and advance search to get the listings page with links to detailed specifications indicating the prices.
  7. Customer can login to the account page. They can update the profile, retrieve lost password, change password and log out at any time.
  8. Customer can add the selected items to the order list. The quantity and the items in the order list can be updated at any time.
  9. Customer receives an auto confirmation message and e-mail after placing an order and submitting the items in the order list.
  10. Customer can track the order status by submitting the tracking number in the order status bar.
  11. Customer can fill a form and upload the list of required products and request a quote
  12. Customer can fill a form and upload the list of inventory products to sell mentioning the target price and request a quote for the products.
  13. Customer can post a new message and reply to the messages on different topics on the forum
  14. Customer can interact with site admin and exchange to and fro messages using a message board.

  16. Site admin can view the list of registered customer in a grid interface and monitor their activities through a shadow login. Admin gets a message board link to interact with any customer
  17. Site admin can manage content in the informational sections on the home page using CMT editor
  18. Site admin can manage the product catalogue and their prices uploading a CSV file from an excel spread sheet in to the webpage on a daily basis. There is a requirement to upload multiple spreadsheets for different manufacturers.
  19. Site admin can reply enquires from contact page via a grid interface with reply option through e-mail
  20. Site admin can view all the requests for quotes from customers and send the quotations via e-mail.
  21. Site admin can view the list of inventory products and send a quotation via e-mail
  22. Site admin have a grid listing to browse the orders and update order status.

Technology Architecture

Whirled Routers was programmed in web architecture using ASP.Net 2.0 (with C#.Net or VB.Net as language) and MS SQL Server 2005 as RDBMS. Application architecture was centralized for easy manageability. Application was optimized for Internet Explorer 6+ but HTML 4 compliance was preserved to ensure cross browser compatibility with other common browsers like Firefox and Netscape Navigator. SSL Certificate was implemented to keep credit card info secure

The .NET Framework 2.0 is Microsoft's managed code programming model and runtime for building applications on the Windows platform. Visual Studio is the professional development environment for building these applications. Together, Visual Studio 2005 and the .NET Framework 2.0 were designed to improve developer productivity and increase application reliability and security by providing a fully managed application environment. Cross browser compatibility was largely ensured through use of XHTML 1.0 and HTML 4 compliance. All application testing was done in Firefox which was a more restrictive implementation of HTML / JavaScript and this ensures that it run well in IE browsers too. Any cross browser issues was debugged if they arise during module testing. Optimistic locking was used in database operations to improve concurrent user performance. Extensive use of stored procedures will ease network traffic and database performance.
